Our Story - Announcement to the Westchester Community
Westchester Meditation Center was initially formed as the Westchester Buddhist Center (WBC), under the direction of John and Natalie Baker, and Jane and Derek Kolleeny, students of Chogyam Trungpa, Rinpoche. Initially gathering at the Bedford Post Inn, WBC eventually moved to its current location situated on the majestic Hudson River with additional locations and meetings throughout Westchester, NY and online. Through the generosity of Eileen Fisher, we have gathered for many years on Sundays at her headquarters in Irvington-on-Hudson, New York. Over time we also added meetings in Mount Kisco, and at the Aligned Center (also in Irvington.)
This year, the founders of WBC, together with Genie Bobker, who joined our team as a senior teacher when we moved locations from Bedford to Irvington, mutually agreed to dissolve the WBC organization. John Baker now runs his organization from his home in Boulder, Colorado, while the remaining three senior teachers have reformed as the new Westchester Meditation Center (WMC). Learn more about our new organization here.
We have spent many years meditating and studying in the tradition of Chogyam Trungpa, Rinpoche, our teacher, and have played host to many interesting teachers from different traditions. We have also offered programs in Dharma Art, Somatic Meditation Practice, Family Meditation, and Aging for Beginners. We plan to continue to offer a rich variety of programs to our community.
Our current community consists of those who have participated previously in activities at WBC, and new visitors alike. You are welcome to join us in meditation and study of dharma, most especially teachings related to Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche. We look forward to seeing you all again.
With appreciation, Derek, Jane, and Genie
